The Book

There is a quiet exchange that runs through a life and through a world. The things that matter in themselves are traded, one by one, for things easier to hold: a number for the work it measured, a price set on what has no price, the regard of others for what one actually is, a cost passed to those who never chose it, a rule for the reason it has outlived, a calm for the peace it only resembles. Each trade works. And each leaves the same crack, because the thing it replaced does not leave – it goes on being wanted.

This book takes these counterfeits and sets them on the bench, one at a time, until the shape they share comes clear. It levels no accusation; nearly everyone is somewhere inside one, the writer first of all. It proves nothing it cannot show, and says so where it stops. And it asks a single question, then leaves it with you: whether the thing itself – the one every counterfeit stands in for – is still real, and whether some part of you has known it, faintly, the whole way down.

The book is free, and nothing is asked for in return – no name, no address, no list.

The way of seeing these pages work from is the one this site describes. If the book resonates, then the full account is the longer walk, which explains how the programme is brought to bear.

If you want to dive deeper still – the full order of rank, the dynamics of the leap, the temporal structure drawn all the way out, as we encounter it in our everyday lives, along with a little bit of theory – all that can be found here.
